Leadership and Learning

I love quotes. The quotes I appreciate I find motivating and inspiring. Sometimes when I read a quote it resonates with me because it's something that I've had difficulty articulating. In any case finding and sharing memorable quotes is part of my day. I have an app on my iPhone that I browse each day and I have an extension for chrome that provides me with thousands of quotes in many categories.

My favourite quote of all time is the one pictured above - "Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other." ~ John F. Kennedy. For me it speaks to everything that a school administrator should strive for. As a leader when you are learning on your own, or co-learning with colleagues and staff you are demonstrating the values of what a learning community looks and feels like. That's why I love that quote.

I'd love to hear you favourite quotes and what they mean to you!

David, I love quotes too, and my very favourite one is included in the signature on my Board email (I wish that I knew who said it, so that I could give proper credit):

"If they don't learn the way you teach, teach they way they learn."

This is my mantra. To me, it's what differentiated instruction, student choice, and inquiry learning all comes down to. Every child can learn. This quote is a good reminder for me to keep working with the children to find "that way" that works for each of them.

Thanks for sharing Aviva. I love that quote. If I remember correctly I think that is also a title of a book that I remember seeing. Either way it's a great mantra! :)

I think my favourite quote changes on a regular basis. However, I can dig into the work of Eleanor Roosevelt, and almost always find something that resonates. Right now, one of the ones I'm walking with is “In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility.”
    ― Eleanor Roosevelt

I love the fact that the process of shaping and re-shaping never ends - and I think that's one of the things we need to teach our kids - and that they have so many choices.

Hi Lisa! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on quotes. I agree that the process of shaping and re-shaping our lives never ends - constant reflection. A great message for our kids!
